A soft and lovely work of art rendered in oil, dated 1954. A group of men are depicted carrying bags of sand on their head, as they transport the goods from one end of a terrain to the next. The artist has executed the work with gentle brushstrokes; and the selection of the neutral earthy colour palette consisting of green, purple blue and clay imbues the work with a subdued feel of lightness. The painting is in good condition overall. There are tiny pin holes and losses to the edges on both sides of the painting (as depicted in the images), but in our opinion this does not detract from the work. It is housed in a very complementary grainy wood frame that is in excellent vintage condition. Size: 25.5 x 40 cm (including frame).
