Superb Original Art Pastel Picture Stephen Pearson Candlelight Girl #1. This is a rare opportunity to own an important piece of original late 60's popular art. Stephen Pearson was a Yorkshire born artist who achieved great success in the 60's and 70's with a series of very kitsch and striking pictures that proved very popular as framed prints. Pearson also produced numerous other prints in the late 60's, the most popular being'Girl by Candlelight', which was a hugely successful framed print rivalling Tretchikoff for sales. The piece up for sale here is the 1st pastel study for the final piece, which is quite different from the final design.

It is believe he created 2 versions of this picture. We believe this version was gifted to one of Pearson's friends. The picture is unfixed pastel on paper that was framed by Pearson at the time it was created and as such the pastel has not smudged. The colours are still lovely and vibrant and my pictures don't really do it justice and are darker that the actual picture.

Pearson has signed and dated the piece and has also signed the back with a warning about the unfixed pastel. The picture frame measures 48cm x 59cm and the visible picture measures 35cm x 46cm. The picture is in excellent condition and has been stored away from sunlight and only has very minimal fading that is only noticeable at the bottom where the picture had slipped in the frame and was later put back into position, uncovering a slightly darker un-faded strip. The frame is in fairly good condition. When displayed it should be out of direct sunlight and in a low humidity environment. The pastel surface will smudge very easily so should not be touched.
